Baker Hostetler has added three new lateral partners and a counsel to its New York office and is planning further growth both there and in other offices.

The new attorneys in New York are all litigators and are expected to help court-appointed trustee Irving Picard handle the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, among other work, the law firm reports in a press release.

They are: Mark Kornfeld, formerly a partner at Hogan & Hartson; Timothy Pfeifer, from White & Case; Deborah Renner, formerly a partner at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal; and Gonzalo Zeballos, a Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking international litigator who previously worked as an assistant general counsel for American International Group Inc. Pfeifer is joining Baker Hostetler as counsel; the other three attorneys are partners.

“We are thrilled to welcome these four outstanding lawyers to Baker Hostetler,” says executive partner Steven Kestner. “Even in these challenging economic times, we have continued to recruit the highest caliber attorneys to strategically expand, both in New York and across the country.”

The 600-attorney law firm has recently expanded its office at 45 Rockefeller Plaza to accommodate expected new hires. There are now more than 90 lawyers in the New York office, which has been growing at an annual rate of more than 30 percent, the release states.
