Bad Cookies Can Be a Deal-Breaker
At least among top Toronto law firms, negotiating skills and good legal work aren’t all it takes to come to terms on corporate deals.
If the conference room catering doesn’t meet the parties’ expectations, that could be a deal-breaker. In particular, gourmet cookies are much on the minds of the corporate and legal titans involved in mergers and acquisitions, according to the Financial Post.
“Cookies dominate elevator chatter on the way up to a law firm as lawyers and their clients salivate not over the money that is about to change hands, but the offering of cookies they will taste in the process,” the newspaper notes. “The big question isn’t how much a deal costs, it’s will a deal be struck over a plate of white-chocolate-chunk cookies or Peak Freans?”
