Updated: Goosehead Insurance in Texas has fired associate general counsel Paul MacNeal Davis after he posted a video of himself outside the U.S. Capitol during the riot Wednesday.
Davis said in the video that ballots and machines had to be inspected.
“We’re all trying to get into the Capitol to stop this,” he said of the vote to certify the election results. But Trump supporters were being tear-gassed, he said, and it’s “not acceptable.”
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram and the Houston Chronicle have stories.
In an Instagram story posted Thursday, Davis said he was not trying to break into the Capitol, Law.com reports.
Goosehead Insurance announced Thursday on Twitter that Davis is no longer with the company.
Davis is licensed to practice law in Texas and is a 2011 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, Bloomberg Law reports.
He left the law firm Clark Hill in June 2020 after working there for about a year, according to Bloomberg Law. He was previously an associate at Saunders, Walsh & Beard in McKinney, Texas, according to a cached version of a December 2017 announcement.
Roger Sollenberger, a staff writer at Salon, had shared Davis’ video.
This is Paul Davis. Paul is a lawyer. He’s also associate general counsel & director of human resources at Goosehead Insurance. Today he stormed the capitol building in an attempt to stage a coup against the US government and documented it (!) on Instagram. @followgoosehead pic.twitter.com/eTkoK92ujL
