Students at the University of Colorado at Boulder booed former Attorney General John Ashcroft during his appearance there earlier this week. The protest escalated to the point that several students were reportedly forcibly removed.

The heckling intensified when Ashcroft described Guantanamo Bay as a “good place” for detainees. But the Denver Post reports that Ashcroft lost his composure when a man called Ashcroft a liar.

The Post and Colorado Daily News noted that a group of about a dozen silent protesters wore American flag bandannas over their faces and shirts with the word “shame” written on the back. The stood and turned their backs to Ashcroft when he took the stage. But the hecklers and students who rushed the stage to confront Ashcroft during the Q&A got all the attention.

That left the former AG to ask: “For those of you who have nothing to learn, why did you come tonight?”
