Arlen Specter Has New Gig as Adjunct Law Prof
Arlen Specter is moving from the U.S. Senate to the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
Specter lost the primary election last spring, 13 months after switching to the Democratic Party. He had served on the Senate Judiciary Committee since 1981 and was its chairman from 2005 to 2007.
Specter, a Yale law grad and former prosecutor, will be an adjunct faculty member, according to a Penn press release. He will teach a course on the relationship between Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court, focusing on separation of powers and the confirmation process.
Specter participated in the confirmation hearings of 14 Supreme Court nominees. He supported the confirmations of Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. But he helped kill the nomination of Robert Bork.
