Applications for Municipal Judge Job Wind Up Exposed to Prying Eyes in Recycling Bin
For 10 applicants for the job of municipal judge in Cleveland, Texas, their bid for the gig wound up earning them some unexpected publicity.
There’s cause for concern about whether their personal identities could have been stolen, after their applications, which contained a wealth of background information, ended up in a public recycling bin, reports the Cleveland Advocate.
Multiple applicants expressed concerned when they heard about the snafu, and one, Robert de Siglio, said he had felt comfortable providing Social Security and driver’s license numbers to the city because he assumed it had procedures to prevent this type of problem.
“When you give your information to a government agency, you just have a higher level of privacy expectation,” he tells the newspaper.
Officials say they plan to review their records management policies and revise them to prevent another such problem.
