Appeals Court Upholds N.C. Judge’s Disbarment
A North Carolina judge who lost his law license based on accusations he took money and property from an elderly woman has also lost his appeal.
James Ethridge had contended disbarment was too harsh a punishment, the Associated Press reports. The North Carolina Court of Appeals disagreed in a ruling on Tuesday.
Ethridge was accused of inducing a client who suffered from dementia to give him her home and transferring some of her money to himself. He later gave back the property and part of the money after the woman’s nephew hired a lawyer.
