Anna Nicole’s Lawyer Boyfriend Accused of Supplying Illegal Meds
Anna Nicole Smith’s lawyer boyfriend and two of her doctors have been accused of supplying her with prescription drugs, often for no legitimate purpose.
Boyfriend Howard K. Stern was accused of funneling the drugs to Smith from 2004 to January 2007, a few weeks before she died of an overdose, according to the Associated Press and the Los Angeles Times. Doctors Sandeep Kapoor and Khristine Eroshevich were accused of writing the prescriptions.
All were charged in California with conspiracy to provide drugs to an addict and unlawfully prescribing a controlled substance, the Times says.
Stern initially claimed to be the father of Smith’s child, Dannielynn, but gave up custody when DNA tests showed Smith’s ex-boyfriend Larry Birkhead was the father.
Adam Braun, an attorney for Eroshevich, a psychiatrist, said his client wrote prescriptions for Smith using false names to protect the star from negative media coverage. Eroshevich treated Smith for postpartum depression the last six months of her life, Braun said.
