Illinois Justice Anne Burke has no plans to recuse herself when the state supreme court decides whether former Obama aide Rahm Emanuel can remain on the Chicago mayoral ballot.

Burke is married to Chicago Ald. Ed Burke, who supports a different mayoral candidate. “Aren’t we beyond that?” Justice Burke told the Crain’s Chicago Business blog Taking Names. “Women have minds of their own. We have spouses in every kind of business. Are we returning to the days of Myra Bradwell?”

Bradwell, the blog explains, became the state’s first female lawyer after originally being denied admission to the bar because of her gender.
