After Initial Denial, Kilpatrick Stockton and Townsend Announce Merger
Kilpatrick Stockton and intellectual property firm Townsend and Townsend and Crew have announced they will merge on Jan. 1, despite earlier assertions to the contrary.
The new firm will be called Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton, according to a press release and the Greensboro News & Record. Kilpatrick Townsend will have about 650 lawyers in 17 offices, putting it among the nation’s 70 largest firms in terms of attorneys and revenue.
Earlier this year, the two firms said client conflicts prevented the merger.
Kilpatrick Stockton is the bigger firm, with about 465 lawyers in 10 offices, including Dubai and Stockholm. Townsend has about 190 lawyers. The merger comes one month after Kilpatrick Stockton announced its merger with a 10-lawyer construction firm, Bell, Rosenberg & Hughes of Oakland, Calif.
Bill Dorris of Kilpatrick Stockton will be chairman of the new firm. Diane Prucino of Kilpatrick Stockton and Maureen Sheehy of Townsend will be co-managing partners.
