Presumably by accident, a third-year student at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law apparently hit “reply all” when sending an e-mail application late yesterday afternoon to serve as a tutor for classmates struggling with their studies.

As a result, fellow students in the classes of 2010, 2011 and 2012, as well as master’s degree and exchange students, were stunned to see the would-be tutor’s list of A grades in a series of classes, which was part of the information requested on the form. The e-mail, with identifying information redacted, was published today by Above the Law. Its post doesn’t include any comment from the law school, but a media representative has confirmed to the ABA Journal that such a mass e-mail was, in fact, sent.

Initially, students found the gaffe amusing. But, as they had time to reflect on the situation, a number began to wonder whether the joke was on them, according to unidentifed tipster comments to the tabloid legal blog.

“As you can see he got really good grades (and his professors are actually some of the hardest in our school),” one ATL tipster writes. “So for most of the day everyone was talking about the [pejorative term redacted] who tore it up and let everyone know about it.”
