Assuming the role as ABA President-Elect, Kentucky lawyer Wm. T. (Bill) Robinson III told the ABA’s House of Delegates on Tuesday that he sees “the current challenging situation as an opportunity” to grow ABA membership and programs.

Robinson is the member in charge of the Florence, Ky., office of Frost Brown Todd. His one-year term, which leads directly to a one-year term as president, begins today.

“My basic concept is to leverage our existing organization in an entrepreneurial way,” Robinson said. There is no “silver bullet” solution to the ABA’s fiscal challenges, he said. “Change is complex and will require flexibility and compromise.”

“We have to be thoughtful, rather than “knee jerk” reflexive. We must be committed to a long-term, consistent, well-reasoned approach from year to year,” he said. Volunteer leaders and staff need to work together to improve operations, Robinson said.

If the ABA accomplishes its goals, volunteer leaders will be able to look back on the coming years and say “we did some of our best work in the hardest of times,” he said.
