3-Year JD Not Tough Enough? Get an MBA, Too, Penn Suggests
For those who might find a standard three-year law school program not challenging enough, the University of Pennsylvania offers another alternative.
In the same three years, law students can earn not only a juris doctor degree but an MBA at Penn’s prestigious business school, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The law school and the university’s Wharton School of Business announced yesterday that they will be offering a new program that allows students admitted by both to earn dual law and business degrees in three years. To do so, however, they must take summer classes after their first year, which will be spent at the law school.
“The program will target potential applicants with around two years of work experience, especially in finance, who are entrepreneurs or are planning careers in investment banking, private equity and related fields,” the article reports.
“Success in business requires thorough knowledge of legal and regulatory environments,” says Wharton’s dean, Thomas Robertson, in a statement. “Penn Law has nine Ph.D.s in economics and two M.B.A.s on its faculty. This three-year program and its demanding curriculum will be irresistible to top students, who also will have access to the exceptional networking and career opportunities that both Penn Law and Wharton provide.”
