26 Former Foster Pepper Lawyers Form New Oregon Firm
Breaking away from Seattle-based Foster Pepper after more than two decades of affiliated practice, 26 lawyers in Portland, Ore., have hung out their own shingle this month and begun honing their own brand.
Now the city’s 19th-largest law firm, Roberts Kaplan has created a new website that features photos of its lawyers engaged in their favorite pastimes, reports the Portland Business Journal. Name partner Ken Roberts, for instance, poses with his prized Harley Davidson.
“Over the last decade, we’ve gained more separation from them,” says Roberts, who is known for his transactional work, of the more than 100-attorney Foster Pepper. “Virtually all of our practice now consists of clients we’ve developed from the Portland community, and the work we shared became less and less. We were two firms, not one firm, and we didn’t have a common client base.”
The split was amicable, according to both firms, and they intend to keep working cooperatively for mutual clients.
