18 lawyers from dwindling Johnston Barton join Birmingham, Ala., office of Butler Snow
After adding attorneys last month in Denver, Georgia and New York, a nearly 300-attorney law firm with offices throughout the south is expanding again.
A group of 18 attorneys is joining the Birmingham, Ala., office of Butler Snow O’Mara Stevens & Cannada from Johnston Barton Proctor & Rose, the Nashville Post reports. Another lawyer has recently joined the Butler Snow office there, bringing the total number of new hires to 19, the article notes.
A Butler Snow press release provides additional details about the 19 lawyers, who will comprise the majority of those in the now 24-attorney Birmingham office. The 280-attorney firm has 12 offices in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and five more offices in Denver, New York City, Pennsylvania and London, its website says.
Johnston Barton has lost a number of lawyers recently and may be winding up its operations, AL.com reported last month.
“We had 40 lawyers 18 months ago; we have 25 now, and we expect others to leave in the next 30 days, either to join other firms, go in-house corporate or into solo practice,” said managing partner David W. Proctor of the Johnston firm in an email.
