An 18-partner group will be leaving the Berlin office of Hogan & Hartson as the United States-based law firm merges May 1 with United Kingdom-based Lovells.

The move will split the Berlin office in two, as the 18 partners and 22 other lawyers form their own Raue law firm, reports Legal Week.

The spin-off, which follows the departure of Hogan & Hartson’s 38-lawyer office in Warsaw, Poland, for K&L Gates earlier this month, will still leave the merged Hogan Lovells firm with 350 lawyers in various offices in Germany, the article notes.

Among those leaving for Raue are the Berlin office’s managing partner, Gernod Meinel, who had been offered a position on the Hogan Lovells board.

He will be replaced by Christoph Wagner, who tells the legal publication that the firm wishes “every success to our long-term friends and partners who are now choosing another professional future.”
