A group of 16 tenured professors at DePaul University College of Law has complained to the American Bar Association about the recent ouster of their former dean, Glen Weissenberger, who remains a faculty member.

In a July 13 letter, they contend that the hiring of an interim dean without faculty input violated ABA law school accreditation standards, reports the Chicago Law blog of the Chicago Tribune.

A DePaul spokeswoman told Chicago Law that the university believes the law school is in full compliance with ABA standards.

Even before the appointment of an interim dean, Weissenberger’s sudden removal was controversial. He has contended that it was brought about by a letter he sent the the ABA, and the 16 DePaul faculty members also suggest this connection in their subsequent letter to the ABA.

The situation has also generated controversy outside the law school. An end-of month DePaul symposium has been canceled because speakers, including the dean of the Temple University School of Law, said they would not be attending in protest, according to the Tribune.
