John Travolta is Jan Schlichtmann, personal injury lawyer and senior partner of a small Boston firm that sues two companies believed to be responsible for contaminating drinking water that caused eight children to die from leukemia. Based on the best-selling nonfiction book, it’s a David versus Goliath story. He runs up against the formidable corporate lawyer Jerome Facher, played by Robert Duvall. Schlichtmann risks his life and career in pursuit of what he sees as justice for the families who lost their children and for trying to save the environment.
Trivia: The real Facher loved Duvall’s performance, a role that had been turned down by Marlon Brando.
