In November 2018, Republican David Leavitt won election as the county attorney for Utah County after 15 years as both a defense attorney and prosecutor. The new top prosecutor of Provo, Utah’s second-largest city, is working on diversion programs for nonviolent offenders and is partnering with nearby towns to create specialized domestic violence courts that would offer rehabilitation for misdemeanor-level offenses. Notable: In 2004, Leavitt took a job with the American Bar Association overseas to help reform Ukraine’s criminal justice system.
