This manuscript, entitled “The trial of Lieutenant Colonel John Lilburne, by an extraordinary or special commission, of oyer and terminer at the Guild-Hall of London, the 24th, 25th, and 26th of October, 1649” in included in the Library of Congress’ Magna Carta exhibit. Its caption reads: “Lilburne was tried in 1649 for his part in an attempt to overthrow Cromwell’s Commonwealth. During the trial he adjured his jury to disregard an unjust law and to exercise the role guaranteed to them under Magna Carta.”
