Lawyers are lovers of words. A beautifully bound book will always be an appropriate present. We received a review copy of The Law Book, written by law librarian and New York Law School professor Michael H. Roffer, and it’s one of our favorites from the year. This coffee table book marks 250 legal milestones, from the first known will in 2550 B.C. to the same-sex marriage decisions of 2015. Each milestone is marked by a short essay and an illustrated facing page. Another legal history tome to consider is Magna Carta: The Foundation of Freedom, created in partnership with the ABA, marking the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta.
For a wider selection of exquisite hardback books, we recommend the Folio Society. The society, founded in London in 1947, selects classic and contemporary books of merit to republish in special illustrated editions with original artwork and bindings. They are more expensive than standard hardcover books, but the quality of printing is exceptional.
