While visiting with children she represented, San Angelo lawyer Mary Noel Golder would bring them toys and necessities. Establishing rapport, and fast, was key.
She learned quickly she needed to compromise on underwear colors. The FLDS girls weren’t allowed to wear underwear with colors or commercial characters. But plain Jane white was difficult to find on short notice. Golder was able to compromise by bringing them packs of plain solid pastel colors.
“I wanted to develop a relationship with them, so they could trust me,” Golder said.
