Queen Elizabeth II has had the longest marriage of any British sovereign, as she and Prince Philip will celebrate their 72nd wedding anniversary this November. But a union of more than seven decades is never going to be without conflict. From the engagement, royals worried that Prince Philip would not be accepted in the monarchy, considering his Danish, Greek and German roots, according to History Extra and Vanity Fair. As a result, the couple agreed in their version of a “prenup” to have Philip drop his Greek and Danish royal titles once married. He also became a naturalized British subject and took his maternal grandparents’ English surname, Mountbatten. This agreement has nothing to do with money and everything to do with the monarchy.
