“This set of dioramas consists of three dioramas depicting the succession of the vice president to the presidency after an assassination, under the U.S. Constitution Article 2, Section 1, Clause 6: ‘In Case of the Removal of the President from Office, or of his Death, Resignation, or Inability to discharge the Powers and Duties of the said Office, the Same shall devolve on the Vice President, … ’ Also, the 25th Amendment explicitly states that when the Presidency is vacant, the Vice President becomes President.
The first diorama (above) shows a historical event in November 1963, with the Presidential limousine at Dealy Plaza in Dallas, with Lee Harvey Oswald firing on the motorcade from the Texas School Book depository.
The next scene shows the assassination of Lee Harvey Oswald by Jack Ruby, and implicates the sometimes controversial Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, protecting the right of individuals (even Oswald and Ruby) to keep and bear arms.
In the third scene, Lyndon B. Johnson is sworn in as president on Air Force One, with Jackie Kennedy at his side. Article 2 Clause 8 of the Constitution states: Before he enters the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:–‘I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.’“
