The ABA's Sustainable Business Model Task Force Wants Your Input And Perspectives
The ABA Board of Governors established the Task Force on Sustainable Business Model at Midyear Meeting 2023. The Task Force is undertaking a holistic review of dues, membership, non-dues revenue, communications, products, relevance in the market, structure, finances, among other areas.
The preliminary work of the Task Force has included building an extensive Resource Library, holding bi-weekly meetings, and receiving presentations on Membership Revenue Projections, Sections/Divisions/Forums, Finance, and Early Career Strategy Group. In addition, the Task Force retained an outside consultant pro bono to facilitate and conduct a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis. The Task Force next will receive presentations on Standing and Special Committees, Communications, Grants, AI and the Future of the Legal Profession along with Bar Trends and Product Improvements.
In addition to these presentations and input from ABA members, the work of the task force will benefit from feedback from law students, young lawyers, lawyers who have not joined the ABA and former ABA members. In order to obtain that feedback, the Task Force will be conducting focus groups and has created a confidential mailbox to receive feedback across all segments of the ABA and the legal profession. Please take the opportunity to provide information on the three things you find most valuable about the ABA as well as the things that could be improved upon:
The Task Force plans to provide their recommendations to the Board of Governors at the Midyear Meeting in February 2024.
