Working Mother's list of 100 best companies includes these 5 law firms

Five law firms made Working Mother Media’s 2019 list of 100 best companies based on their benefits for families.

The five law firms are: Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer; Dechert; Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner; Katten Muchin Rosenman; and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. The American Lawyer has a story. The list is here and a press release is here.

Arnold & Porter was included in Working Mother’s “hall of fame” for making the list at least 15 times over the years.

Working Mother has an application with more than 400 questions for companies that want to make the list. They include questions about leave policies, workforce representation, benefits, childcare, advancement programs and flexibility policies.

According to the list, which is based on 2018 data:

• Arnold & Porter offers a minimum of 18 weeks of fully paid maternity leave, a phase-back or reduced hours program for new moms returning to work, and backup childcare.

• Dechert offers a minimum of 12 weeks of gender-neutral paid parental leave, a minimum of another eight weeks of fully paid maternity leave, a phase-back or reduced hours program for new moms returning to work, backup childcare, and childcare for sick children.

• Finnegan Henderson offers a minimum of seven weeks of fully paid maternity leave, a phase-back or reduced hours program for new moms returning to work, backup childcare, and childcare for sick children.

• Katten offers a minimum of eight weeks of fully paid maternity leave, a phase-back or reduced hours program for new moms returning to work, backup childcare, and childcare for sick children.

• Pillsbury offers 12 weeks of fully paid gender-neutral parental leave, an additional six weeks of fully paid maternity leave, a phase-back or reduced hours program for new moms returning to work, and backup childcare.

Among all 100 companies on Working Mother’s list, the average amount of fully paid maternity leave is 11 weeks. Ninety-eight percent of the best companies offer flextime and 99 percent offer telecommuting.

The top company on the list is Johnson & Johnson.

Working Mother worked with the ABA Journal to develop a list of 60 law firms that use best practices to recruit, retain, promote and develop women lawyers. The results were released in July.

Women made up 37% of new equity partners at the 60 firms, 23% of all equity partners, and15% of the most highly compensated partners. The average minimum of paid parental leave was 15 weeks.
