Women lawyers at Wall Street firms are rarely partners, study finds

Less than 19 percent of the partners practicing at Wall Street law firms are women, according to a study (sub. req.) recently published by Law360 (sub. req.)
Law360’s third annual “Glass Ceiling Report” surveyed 300 law firms with U.S. offices; the numbers reflect 2015. Its data showed that there are 8,549 attorneys practicing at Wall Street Law firms. Of that total, 17.1 percent are male partners, and only 3.9 percent are female partners. This puts women at 18.6 percent of Wall Streeet firms’ partnership ranks.
Out of all the law firms surveyed, the average for female partners is 22 percent of all partners, according to the article. Fifty percent of law school graduates are women, the survey notes, and women make up 48 percent of summer associate classes.
Women made up approximately 14 percent of the partnerships at both Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft and Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, according to the article. At Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel, 12.4 percent of its partnership is female.
