Woman crashes into firehouse with python wrapped around her neck, faces DWI and theft charges
Did the stolen snake make her do it? Or was it merely along for the ride?
In either case, a 22-year-old Albany, New York, woman is facing an array of charges including driving while intoxicated and petit larceny (concerning a small ball python) after crashing her Toyota Prius into a firehouse in Long Island on Monday.
Firefighters who gave aid to Sarah Espinosa after the accident discovered the snake wrapped around her neck, and removed and secured it, according to Thomson Reuters and WABC.
Responding police then discovered that the python had been stolen from a nearby pet store shortly before the crash. They also found marijuana in her possession, the articles report.
Police said it isn’t clear whether Espinosa’s alleged intoxication or the snake strangling her caused the accident.
She allegedly lost control of her car around 7 p.m. on the Jericho Turnpike, crossed the median, struck another vehicle and crashed through the door of the Nassau County fire station, damaging two trucks.
In addition to the DWI and theft charges, she also faces charges of reckless endangerment, reckless driving and unlawful possession of marijuana.
