Winston & Strawn cuts about 30 staffers
Winston & Strawn has eliminated nearly 30 administrative positions.
Managing partner Tom Fitzgerald confirmed the layoffs in a statement provided to the ABA Journal. “It comes as no surprise that all law firms have adjusted their administrative support function in response to both improvements in technology and economic conditions that continue to favor lean staffing and efficiency,” he said. “After careful consideration, Winston & Strawn has made the decision to eliminate nearly 30 administrative positions out of a total 728 staff members across our U.S. offices.”
Fitzgerald said the laid-off staffers “will receive severance packages appropriate with their tenure.”
Above the Law was first to report the news. The blog notes that the firm’s attorney headcount has declined by about 20 lawyers in a one-year period, according to American Lawyer rankings. The firm had 842 lawyers in the 2013 rankings and 822 lawyers in the 2014 rankings.
