Websites lawyers love (and you will too)
The always crowd-pleasing session “60 Sites in 60 Minutes” closed the ABA Techshow Saturday as speakers Britt Lorish, Eric Mazzone, Lincoln Mead and Mark Rosch shared their top websites for lawyers.
A few of our favorite sites include:
• Viivo and Sookasa: If you share and store documents in the cloud-based storage system Dropbox, then you’ll want to first encrypt sensitive data using either Viivo (free) or Sookasa (free and paid).
• The Wirecutter: Need help finding the best tech gadget for you? This website offers helpful shopping tips and reviews on tech products for your practice, home and self.
• CopyPasteCharacter: All of the odd characters you may ever need to type into an email, tweet or mobile document displayed in a single page. Just click, copy and paste.
• Cloudsurfing: Discover and evaluate new web-based services and apps. It even provides screenshots of different user interfaces so that you’ll know what the services are like before you sign up for a demo or purchase.
• Momondo and Skyscanner: Neither website is controlled by hotel or airline companies (unlike other popular travel sites) and offer a wider variety of travel options and hard-to-find deals.
• Byliner: A collection of fiction and nonfiction short stories and long-form articles written by established and promising new writers.
• Meeting Wizard: No more telephone tag! This free service employs simple technology to allow users to send online invitations to plan and schedule meetings and other events, plus propose optional dates, manage responses and send automatic reminders.
• BirthDatabase and TLO: One website can help you to track down information about an individual by supplying the birthdate of more than 120 million names stored in its database. The other is a comprehensive investigative research database that tracks names, aliases, Social Security numbers, addresses, phone numbers (even unlisted ones), relatives, neighbors, assets, driver’s licenses and vehicle info, and email addresses.
• Cue: Have data stored all over the Web in various cloud programs? Cue puts it all together into one interface for easy access.
• AudioName: Is your moniker difficult for others to pronounce? This website allows users to attach personalized audio recordings of their names in emails and on websites so that others don’t commit the awkward faux pas of mispronouncing it in person.
