Skadden Arps partner Christina M. Tchen, one of Barack Obama’s top fundraisers, is expected to head the Office of Public Liaison for the White House.
The Chicago Tribune’s blog, The Swamp, reports that Tchen was active in Obama’s campaign for Senate and raised between $200,000 and $500,000 for his presidential bid.
In the liaison role, Tchen will interact with constituencies and public interest groups, in addition to planning briefings, meetings and presidential events.
According to her firm bio, Tchen is a veteran litigator who has represented clients including Abbott Labs, Motorola and McDonald’s in shareholder and derivative actions.
Tchen, who earned her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law, also has an extensive record doing public interest work and serving on local boards.
In an April Chicago Lawyer first-person, Tchen talks about the influence of her Chinese immigrant parents and her interest in volunteerism.
She writes, “I cannot imagine life on the sidelines, merely going home each night, perhaps clucking about our school system or the sorry state of healthcare, without being involved somehow in the work that addresses these issues.”
