Proskauer lays off 29 staff members
Proskauer Rose is laying off 29 staff members as it streamlines operations in its New York offices.
“In New York, the firm will move toward a shared services model in which secretaries operate in teams,” the firm says in a written statement provided to Above the Law. “This approach, which has been adopted by a number of other law firms, will allow Proskauer to enhance collaboration, distribute work more equitably, leverage advances in technology and, most importantly, serve our clients more efficiently.”
The written statement does not give the number of layoffs, but an internal memorandum obtained by ATL says 20 secretaries and nine other staff members will be getting pink slips.
Those affected will be getting what the firm describes as generous severance and a year of paid medical benefits.
