A Georgia prosecutor who was shot by her estranged husband in April 2014 is returning to work after going through several surgeries and extensive rehabilitation.

April Ross will be a prosecutor in the domestic violence unit of the district attorney’s office, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Ross, formerly known as April McConnell, was shot multiple times by her husband, who later killed himself.

Ross uses a wheelchair as a result of the shooting. Her office has been modified to accommodate her needs.

Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard told the newspaper in a statement that Ross “is truly a dynamic person” and “a survivor who has courageously triumphed over tremendous odds. She is an inspiration both personally and professionally. Beyond that, April is a dedicated employee with an exemplary work ethic. We are fortunate to have her on our team.”
