Oregon judge allows video game designer to change sex to 'agender'
An Oregon judge has approved an application by a writer and video game designer to change from the male sex to “agender.”
Judge Amy Holmes Hehn approved the petition submitted by Patrick Abbatiello on March 10, report the Associated Press and NBC News. Hehn also approved Abbatiello’s application to change to the single name “Patch.”
People who are agender say they have no gender identity. “It’s not that I decided I was genderless—that’s just how it is,” Patch told the AP. “I never felt like I fell within any part of the gender spectrum. None of the binary options, nothing in between. I don’t consider myself nonbinary because that’s an umbrella term for anything that isn’t binary, which is gender identity.”
Hehn had approved an Army veteran’s application last year that sought a judgment of sex change to “nonbinary.”
