Ohio-Based Buckingham Firm Axes 16, Appoints New Management Team
A nearly 100-year-old Ohio based law firm has let 16 attorneys and staff members go and appointed a new executive committee and managing partner, as part of a restructuring effort to cope with its overly rapid expansion in recent years.
The move by Buckingham Doolittle & Burroughs implements strategy recommended by the Hildebrandt consulting firm, Buckingham’s new managing partner, John Slagter, tells the Cleveland Plain Dealer in a written statement.
The firm plans to consolidate its Cleveland offices in order to sublease unneeded space, Slagter writes. It also has offices in Akron, Canton and Boca Raton and West Palm Beach, Fla., according to its website. After the 16 firings, there will be about 80 lawyers on the firm’s attorney roster, the newspaper says.
“With the new leadership team and streamlined structure in place, Buckingham will be a very attractive platform for the best and brightest attorneys in Ohio and Florida,” he predicts.
The article doesn’t state how many lawyers were among the 16 individuals laid off by the firm.
