Men Get Support for Undergarment Lecture
A clothing expert’s talk on the history of ladies’ underwear will no longer be off limits to men after a protest by an atheist and the American Civil Liberties Union.
A suburban Chicago library had at first banned men from the presentation, “Unmentionables: The Rise and Fall of Ladies Underwear,” because of fears it could make “women of a certain age” uncomfortable, the Chicago Tribune reports. Program presenter Ellie Carlson changed her mind after hearing from atheist litigant Rob Sherman, who plans to attend the event on Jan. 20.
The ACLU also objected, saying the program should be open to everyone because it was being held at a venue supported by taxpayer dollars.
