A legal thriller author tracks and exposes scams and dirty deals at his new blog.

Jack Payne, who wrote Six Hours Past Thursday, has developed expertise in the art of the con from 45 years spent studying scam artists, a press release says.

Payne’s blog chronicles shady business opportunities, ultra-low-cost vacation deals and other too-good-to-be-true come-ons. The press release says the blog is named the Con Man’s Blog although the blog itself carries the name of Payne’s book.

A recent entry considers the pros and cons of setting up a living trust and warns readers to steer clear of high-pressure sales pitches, whether from telemarketers or Internet pitchmen.

In another post, Payne talks about methods used by scam artists trying to find investors in pyramid schemes. He says scammers tend to make their most outrageous claims early in a pitch to weed out the most skeptical individuals. They tend to hint at mysterious backers in the so-called business venture and discourage investors from talking to one another.

“At The Con Man’s Blog, I frequently write about the con man’s favored techniques from the perspective of the scammer,” Payne says in the press release. “I think it’s important for my readers to know how con men think, because that provides the insight they need to steer clear of people who would otherwise view them as nothing more than a mark.”
