Lawyer for stars launches do-it-yourself divorce website
A lawyer who represents Hollywood stars in their divorces has launched a new website to help people getting an uncontested divorce create the needed forms and get the paperwork filed.
The website is called It’s Over Easy, and its founder is family law attorney Laura Wasser, report the Associated Press, Forbes and CNN. Initially, the site is available only for divorcing people in California and New York County.
The AP article describes the website as “part service-oriented and part-lifestyles site, with Wasser and others sharing their approaches to managing finances during a breakup, co-parenting children, and surviving holiday gatherings.”
Three pricing levels are offered. For $750, the website asks you a series of questions, completes the forms and allows you to download them. There is also access to an interactive co-parenting calendar and a support calculator.
There are pop-up videos during the process that feature Wasser giving advice on issues such as how to determine the date of separation or how to manage co-parenting calendars, according to Forbes.
For $1,500, plus processing and filing fees, the divorce petition is served on your spouse and the forms for one person are filed with the court. One party can get a 30-minute consultation with a “family law consultant.”
For $2,500, plus processing and filing fees, both parties are covered. The paperwork is filed for both parties. There is also a 90-minute phone consultation for two people and email support from the “family law consultant.”
The terms and conditions warn that the website is not a law firm, there is no attorney-client relationship, and no access to a lawyer.
Wasser tells CNN she’s not afraid that the website will put a dent in her practice.
“I think there are always going to be families that have complicated, complex legal matters in their divorces,” she said. “I think the majority of people that get divorced do not have those situations, and I really am hoping It’s Over Easy changes the face of divorce.”
