An employee of a law firm in Gainesville, Florida, has been charged with attempted murder for alleging stabbing the office manager over an accounting mistake.

Police charged 39-year-old Linda Renae Williams in the Friday morning stabbing at Scruggs, Carmichael & Wershow, the Gainesville Sun reports. A story by WCJB says Williams is 40.

According to a police report cited by the Gainesville Sun, Williams arrived early for work Friday and asked to speak with her supervisor. They spoke in a secluded office with the door closed. When the supervisor tried to leave, Williams allegedly stabbed her in the neck with a fishing knife.

The victim screamed and tried to kick Williams away, according to police. Other employees raced to the scene. Williams walked out of the office and dropped the knife on the sidewalk.

The victim was hospitalized with wounds to her neck and hands.

A lawyer at the law firm, Kevin Jurecko, told the ABA Journal that the victim has been released from the hospital and is recovering. He said the law firm had no further comment.
