Kirkland & Ellis has once again boosted the number of lawyers promoted to partner with its latest announcement of a record 193 partnership promotions.

The number of promotions is 28% higher than last year’s number, report Law.com and Reuters.

Kirkland has increased the number of partner promotions for at least six years in a row, according to Law.com. The article considers the number to be significant for another reason: The firm promoted a record number of lawyers, even though mergers and acquisitions have decreased in value and volume in 2022.

The promoted lawyers become part of the firm’s nonequity partnership tier, which was made up of 763 lawyers at Kirkland last year. The firm had 490 equity partners at that time.

Because of the high number of partnership promotions, 75% of Kirkland partners last year had earned their JDs in the 2000s, more than any other law firm in the Am Law 200 list of top-grossing firms, according to prior coverage. Kirkland is the No. 1 ranked firm on the list.
