A Jenner & Block litigation associate died on Saturday when the snowmobile he was driving crashed into a tree.

Lawyer Grant Folland, 29, worked in Jenner & Block’s Chicago office, according to Above the Law and his law firm biography (JPG). The Associated Press, however, says Folland lived in New York City. He graduated from the University of Chicago Law School in 2008.

According to AP, Folland “was an inexperienced snowmobile driver who apparently lost control of his snowmobile and struck a tree.” The accident occurred in the Wisconsin township of Lake Tomahawk.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, News of the North reports.

Jenner & Block has hired grief counselors for the New York and Chicago offices. A statement by managing partner Susan Levy says Folland was with several colleagues at the time of the accident. “Words cannot begin to describe this tragedy, but our hearts go out to his family, and our many fond memories of Grant will live on,” says the statement, published on Above the Law.
