A couple victimized two law firms, as well as other entities, in an adoption scam, a 30-count federal grand jury indictment contends.

It charges Serena Carol Matthews and Scott Smith of Oklahoma City with conspiracy and mail fraud, among other crimes, for allegedly presenting her as pregnant and posing as a couple ready to give up their child for adoption, in exchange for living expenses, reports the Associated Press.

Bado and Bado and the Boren Law Office were among six adoption-related businesses listed in the indictment as victims of the claimed scam.

The article doesn’t include any comment from the couple, who are being held in the Oklahoma County jail.
