A Texas judge who made headlines yesterday after being indicted on a misdemeanor charge of official oppression is accused of soliciting a defendant in a driving-while-intoxicated case for sexual favors.

The indictment accuses Criminal Court-at-Law Judge Donald Jackson, 59, of telling the 27-year-old woman that he would help her find “a different attorney to get her case dismissed if she would be interested in the defendant and enter into a relationship with him that was more than a one-night stand,” the Houston Chronicle reported. It isn’t clear whether the alleged Feb. 19 offer was made in the courtroom, the newspaper says.

Jackson remained on the bench today after being released on $1,000 bond. He will plead not guilty in the case, according to his attorney, Clay Rawlings. He declined to discuss the case further with the Chronicle other than to say that the 17-year jurist is also a longtime friend.

Jackson recused himself in early June from continuing to handle his accuser’s DWI case, the newspaper reports.
