Among the new initiatives that the incoming president of the American Bar Association is to announce Monday will be a plan to appoint attorneys Ted Olson and David Boies as co-chairs of a new ABA Task Force on the Preservation of the Justice System.

Stephen N. Zack will make the announcement during a speech to the ABA House of Delegates, an ABA press release (PDF) states. In addition to underfunding of the justice system and access to justice, Zack plans to highlight as key concerns the legal rights of Hispanics, a need for more civic education in American schools and society and the ABA’s work to help prepare for and respond to disasters.

“Our system of government was created with the basic belief that the doors to our courts would always be open to all citizens,” says Zack in the release. “Equal justice under law is the birthright of Americans. It is a promise enshrined in our Constitution and written over the entrance of our Supreme Court. We need to make good on this promise.”

Zack, who is a partner at Boies Schiller & Flexner, will begin a one-year term as ABA president at the end of the annual meeting.
