From Corporate Law to Boutique Owner: Black Sheep Betty
When she worked for a top corporate law firm in Toronto, Amy Arnott found the environment too competitive for her taste. So gave up the law to become a hairdresser and artist.
Now, the 31-year-old is back in business—as the owner of a Toronto boutique that sells paintings, clothing and jewelry known as Black Sheep Betty, reports the McGill Daily. However, she still hopes to hang on to her humanity. Even though she admits that running a business has forced her to toughen up, she selects paintings to sell, for instance, not only on the merit of the works but because of the positive energy of the artists who create them.
“I’ve gotten burned for being too trusting; it’s a constant struggle to maintain my values and not become too hard, but not get pushed over at the same time,” Arnott says. “You don’t want to become an uber-bitch just to succeed.”
