A former Kansas attorney general who wrangled with abortion clinics is continuing to take an aggressive stance as a local district attorney.

Prosecutor Phill Kline charged a Planned Parenthood clinic yesterday with performing illegal late-term abortions, the New York Times reports. He also accused the clinic of failing to determine the viability of the fetus in late-term abortions, providing false information and maintaining incomplete records.

As attorney general, Kline sought the names and personal information of those who had abortions at two facilities, including the Planned Parenthood clinic. His prosecution efforts failed.

A spokeswoman for current Attorney General Paul Morrison, who replaced Kline last year, said his office found no wrongdoing when it reviewed the accusations that served as the basis for Kline’s new charges.

“We are skeptical that these charges have any merit, and we continue to wonder how much politics influenced Mr. Kline’s decision to file these charges,” the spokeswoman, Ashley Anstaett, told the Times.
