Choosing a law firm holiday card might seem like a simple matter … but when attorneys are concerned the nuances of even seemingly straightforward terms tend to be carefully considered.
Hence, at an apparent partner meeting featured on its animated holiday e-card, Manatt Phelps & Phillips lawyers debate at length such issues as whether “happy holidays” is an appropriate message.
“What if their holidays aren’t happy?” points out one attorney. “Could we be liable?”
After a considerable confab, the team agrees on a “warm wishes” e-card message … with a lengthy disclaimer. Among other provisions, it includes a statement that “the sender reserves the right to deny the sender ever wished the recipient wishes, whether warm, cold or any temperature whatsoever.”
